Note: he had just conquered our regions and was preparing his political career, qualifying his slain enemies as the bravest was quite a bout of propaganda.

ofermōd
ancient Old English word from ofer + mōd meaning „over-courage“.
i wasn‘t aware of how much i had craved for such a word in my life until now
I Don't Speak Down to You When I Speak Up to You
I'm a philologist. I take great pride in learning the meaning and roots of words. I then use these words apropriately. It's not out of any attempt to make myself sound superior, it is for specificity, poetics, and to explore the true extent and wonder that is the English Language, (among others).
That's the kind of person I am. I find it deeply patronizing to assume someone is beneath me. I don't speak down to people, I speak up to them.
If you don't understand something I say, and ask, I don't look at it as a sign of ignorance, but learning, and learning is something I deeply respect.
Because that's what it's about, respect.
I hate the word Homophobia
In truth, there are few words I hate with the same passion as do for this word. First, philologically, (bare with me, I am philologist), it's technically incorrect. Homo- means same, as in fear of similar things. Now that is out of the way, because it implies it's on the same scale as claustrophobia or arachnophobia. When you hear Homophobia, it's not about someone jumping on a chair and shrieking, it's a group getting together to beat the tar out of another human being because he or she makes them feel uncomfortable. At it's least, Homophobia is prejudice or discrimination, while at it's worst it's a HATE CRIME! Keyword CRIME! HATE CRIME! It's not "Ahhhhh, Spider!." It's unlawful discrimination, harassment, conspiracy, assault, battery, all the way up to RAPE/MURDER! Also, religious excuses are just that, excuses, as the Bible puts equal emphasis on not eating pork or shellfish, not wearing polycotton, not shaving/trimmimg the hair about your temples, not building a fire in Satur/Sundays, not drinking with other cultures, not touching a pig's dead body, not eating a meal that includes meat and dairy, et al. pretty much any Sunday during (yankee) football season. Hell, pretty much all of Leviticus is rules of questionable purpose that were only meant for priests. We don't see you beating up pig farmers, or shunning football players because they are unclean and sinful.
