i want to rant about Belos' theme because it sounds like some lullaby, yet it is so terrifying and uncanny, what is literally the most perfect melody for a character like him - he doesn't need grand theme, loud pipe organs or mencaing orchestra to cause utter horror. no. he is a mysterious man hidden behind so many lies and his mask, his demeanor is calm and calculative, and he causes goosebumps with his power only, no need to be aggressive or too loud.

the way the melody reminds of lullaby reflects what could be hidden behind all the persona he has built for years - a man that lives in his childhood dream and never moves on. also, his looks and voice are quite soft and kind, despite his atrocities, he looks like he could be someone's dad or grandpa that tells the best night time stories when you look at him.

yet, this is not a lullaby one can listen to fall asleep to, it makes you shiver and feel the same fear everyone in the castle seems to constantly feel from him.

Philip cant recall any of the prayers anymore, forgetting them more and more with each decade. He cant remember any line from the bible anymore, not even the seven god's commandments, them being replaced with magic spells.

He is almost one of those wild creatures he despises and wants to get rid of, but he knows that as long as he keeps on murdering them, the god will be on his side, and his soul will be saved.

The fact that Belos never loved Caleb as a person, more like an idea of always having someone around him who would love him regardless and take care of him just never leaves my brain

My genuine thoughts on philip wittebane

The way Belos thought that he would be able to survive in the human realm despite no access to palismans, glyphs not working to sustain his human form has always been funny to me, but there is another layer to it.

He thought that once he kills all the witches, creates a new human-like grimwalker, everything will fall into place and be as before - just him and his brother being witch hunters and being happy together, not considering other posssibilities, living his childhood dream that is physically impossible anymore anyway

Philip rarely goes to sleep, he rarely even leaves his workshop, making sure either Collector or Hunter around him.

Because he knows that once he is alone, HE will be haunting him. In peripheral vision, in the darkness of his own apartment, in his dreams. He is mad at Caleb so much for what he has done but can't stop thinking about him and wanting him close once again.

He bites, hisses, runs on his four, attacks caleb from the corner and bites his ankles. This boy is unstoppable.

Personally, I see Belos as having loved Caleb as a person at one point, but over time it ended up eroding into only loving the idea of Caleb.

Philip when he was a kid or a teenager, perhaps? Or even an adult, but at his preacher era, or once he started killing grimwalkers for "betraying" him, there is hardly anything we could call pure love - more like an unhealthy obsession
