Filipino Charities of North America

Based in Michigan and operating through both Philippine government and nongovernmental bodies, Filipino Charities of North America, Inc. (FCNA) is a registered 501(c)(3) organization that supplies basic necessities to areas hit with typhoons, hurricanes, mudslides and other natural disasters. FCNA extends their services to include students who are unable to fund their education as well, so that those students can support their families. You could help a student attend college! In Quinapondan Eastern Samar for this morning's SURÂ show, @topernicus and I had to go house to house to get an audience and with Sirang Theater Ensemble's Joel walked into this non-government post-Haiyan housing project. Manang Nina was sweeping the tiny eskinita, but so happily walked down each strip of road and shouted for every kapitbahay to come watch the show at the plaza. It was straight out of a Pinoy sitcom: "hoy Fortuna! Punta tayo sa plaza!" Later she came to watch the show all dressed up, and still with this huge smile on her face. It was one of few bright spots in these days that weigh heavy on the heart. #HaiyanAYearHence #PhilippinePoverty #NoPresidentsHere
