Good news from northern New Mexico. Smiling.
Got off an hour and a half call with my dog-mushing friend up in Alaska.
Hearing old friends talk about adventure, and simply even try to spell to you the majesty of the place is terrific. I cannot wait till he's back down here and I can buy him a pitcher of beer - sitting and listening to him be animated.
Thanks for the link. What conservation positions ought I consider if I want to get my hands dirty and do some work on trails?
Sorry I never got the chance to respond immediately. If you’re considering Cons, jobs that get your hands dirty include:
Conservationist*
Work Crew
OATC Foreman
CONS tends to be staunch advocates of, “Work hard, play hard”. Expect to be exhausted, and revelling in the dirt - and to enjoy those little moments when you sledge through that rock, finish that dry stack wall, or find some participants that are really into it.
I’ve worked within the department for three years, as an OATC foreman. Fantastic job - personally not sure what I’m doing next year. Intend on working, and I assume they’ll keep me within the department, but I’ll serve to wherever they want me to.
Tell me if you got anymore questions-other Philstaffers on the tumblr include:
Blackandplaid Health Lodge
Greathaironmountbadly (alt: the-notorious-z-m-b) Program Counselor
Takemetocanada Ranger
Artemiskaleo Program Counselor/Logistics

ADDED: red-hurr-dont-curr Trading Post
ADDED (12-2-2013): eightdaysoftaylor Ranger
(If I missed you, it wasn’t on purpose…pipeup!)
Just send in that application,
Coney

*Couldn’t find the job description for Conservationist easily accessible. Basic responsibilities include leading trail work or similar projects for three sessions a day, teaching youth how to effectively do it and managing these work sites. One of the best jobs on the ranch for the sheer amount of time you get to spend in the back country.
