Do you ever think about how canonically there was a camera rolling in the cockpit during the entire Taumoeba Fishing scene, and the footage might've made it onto the Beatles. The people on Earth might've seen it, seen how close it was. "The sky is just slightly on fire." The alarms starting to blare. Rocky screaming in horror as Grace almost dies retrieving the collector. The moment the fuel starts migrating. Grace losing consciousness. Rocky risking everything just to save him. I am going to SCREAM can you imagine watching that and it being real???? Watching with baited breath, knowing it was all okay in the end but not knowing yet how scary it was for them, how dangerous, how it even happened. How much it hurt. I'm gonna be sick.

i've been consuming phm fancreations with reckless abandon and i raise you the following: Yao and Ilyukhina survive the whole time but are stuck in their comas throughout everything... Through first contact, through time go fishing, to even sending off the beetles... and then they finally wake up or are woken up from their comas with the help of the Eridians on Erid. Grace in this would still make the decision to go back for Rocky, and he would have had no idea if they would ever wake up or not, or if they would sleep forever... I don't even think WTF would even BEGIN to cover their reactions upon waking on an alien planet, but like. Consider . Local Alien Amnesiac Teacher Scientist completes whole mission despite all the odds against him, AND maybe?? found a way for them all to survive?? in this maybe Grace would still choose to stay on Erid, but Yao and Ilyukhina could choose to go back to Earth with an Eridian delegation or something..

I had to wait to see PHM in theatres thanks to Grad School(tm) but I've managed to see it 3 times now right basically at the end of it's run.. and i'm really grateful I did because each time I saw it, I noticed something new/another tiny detail. what looked like rocky hitting the xenonite/hitting the ball back as grace bounced the ball at him, the tiny fox motifs/details (the mask and also the keychain/keyring, I can't believe I missed that!! I saw the sweater obvs though), the potential symbolism with Grace being dressed with yellow costuming similar to both his crew members/fellow astronauts, as well as with the explosion him being the only one in yellow again and everyone else in black... like a sun in the void of space, or even like astrophage.... and all of the soundtrack motifs!!! i could yap for hours about it its SO good... time go fishing had me SO stressed in the best way, oh my goodness. aaaaaa there's so many tiny details to explore!!
