Sundance Institute Screenwriters Intensive ǀMiami 2015
With support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, SundanceInstitute will be hosting a Screenwriters Intensive in Miami on April 18, 2015.In collaboration with Phonograph Films, this one-day workshop will support 10-12 local screenwriters who are currently developing a narrative feature-length screenplay. Veteran screenwriter Joan Tewkesbury (Nashville, Thieves Like Us) will lead Designed Obstacles, a working session that will provide each writer with tools to delve deeply into their characters and make vital discoveries to enrich their stories.
We are currently seeking applicants for the Sundance Institute Screenwriters Intensive ǀ Miami. Participants must be developing a feature-length narrative screenplay and must be based locally in the Miami area. Additionally, we are seeking writers whose projects fit broadly into the Sundance model; specifically, films that are independent in terms of story and spirit, character-driven, and reflective of the writer’s authentic voice and personal, unique vision.
APPLICATION GUIDELINES
In order to be considered for the Sundance Institute Screenwriters Intensive, you must: - be developing a feature-length fiction screenplay - be based in the Miami area and be able to prove it upon request with a valid, Florida Driver's License. -You may submit more than one entry, but ONLY upon successfully submitting your first entry.
Please note that trying to submit a second entry while editing your first will void both entries in the system and we won't be able to reset it.
***Additionally, please note that the entire script must be made available during the selection process upon request.
INSTRUCTIONS
You will need to submit the following information and materials:
1. Contact Details (First and Last Name, Postal Address, Email Address, Phone Number)
2. Cover letter/Artistic Statement – no more than 750 words. Briefly introduce yourself and your project. We are interested in information such as the genesis of the story, your personal connection to the film, a sense of your vision for the film in terms of themes, tone, and other films that serve as references for you, and a sense of how you think a writing workshop might be helpful to you as you continue to work on the script.
3. Please let us know how you heard about the program.
4. Bio – no more than 500 words. We would like to receive a narrative bio (as opposed to a resume) that gives an idea of previous experience and background. If you have prior film credits of any kind we’d like to know that, but you may also wish to include details such as where you’re from, your education, and any relevant information about what has drawn you to screenwriting and informed how you see yourself as a storyteller.
5. Logline – no more than 75 words.
6. Synopsis – no more than 750 words. This should be a detailed summary of the plot that can also touch on the larger themes you’re exploring.
7. Please submit the first five pages and no more of the film script that you plan to develop in the intensive workshop as PDF file. Please note the entire script must be made available during the selection process upon request.
*** The deadline to submit is 11:59pm ET on March 6, 2015 ***
**Partially completed applications will be voided at that time.
**Applicants will be notified of their status on or before April 1, 2015.
The Screenwriters Intensive ǀ Miami is presented by Sundance Institute. This program is supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
