Photoplay magazine covers
Photoplay was one of the first American film fan magazines, its title another word for screenplay. It was founded in Chicago in 1911. Photoplay played a big role in creating celebrity culture. It gave fans glamorous photos, star profiles, and behind-the-scenes access to Hollywood.
