A picture from the kitchen at Fort Kickass. I was told once, that if you own one or two of something then you just own a couple of that thing. If you own three or more of that thing then you are a collector.
If that is true, then I guess that I am a “collector” of lots of random crap :)
One of those collections for me are antique electric fans. I have several that I’ve rescued/restored that date from the teens through the 1950s. This fan is a small 8 inch General Electric fan non-oscillator from the early 1930s. She puts out a surprising amount of air.
For you youngsters that have never seen one, the giant black thing on the wall next to the fan is cutting edge telephone technology from the 1930s. I went through a telephone phase for a while. I thinned that collection down several years ago, but I still have an oak wall phone, an old candlestick phone, and a couple of others in addition to this one. This phone is an Automatic Electric Monophone. She was a filthy mess when I found her at a flea market junk pile in Canton, Texas. I wired it up to our land line once I got it cleaned up and it was our working “home phone” right up until we cancelled our land line a couple years ago. When she would ring, you could hear her outside in the driveway with all the doors and windows of the house closed :)
