First Lantern Festival - Hiro and Elise

It had most certainly been worth the money for boat fare. As soon as Elise and Hiro had started toward the water, she caught a glimpse of all of the people of varying ages, putting finishing touches on their lanterns. Elise had made her own, but she didn’t feel like it was quite as good as a lot of the others. She had never participated before, so she was just sort of winging things.

Once they had found a good spot, Elise gave Hiro’s hand a squeeze before releasing it and fishing in her purse until she pulled out two ribbons - one pink and one blue. She held the blue one out to Hiro and then produced two Sharpies, which she wiggled back and forth in her fingers before handing one to Hiro.

“Forgive me, I thought we could add our wishes to the lanterns before setting them adrift. It seems everyone is still getting ready to set the lanterns free anyway, so...” That meant they had a few minutes at least. 

She lowered herself to the ground, setting her lantern in front of her before she stared intently at the ribbon. What did she really have to wish for? Truthfully, she was pretty happy these days. She had the job she wanted, great friends, and a boyfriend that she loved.

A small flush crossed her pale cheeks as she thought it over, but she eventually sighed and scrawled something on the ribbon. Before tying it off, she looked up at Hiro, looking embarrassed as she mumbled:

“You may see mine, but you have to show me what you wrote as well. Sound fair? We can do it on a count of three, if you like.”

Caught Off Guard || Jake & Hiro

[ ⚔ ] — As much as Jake loved mining, he had just as much hate for the particular risks that were associated with it... namely, those weird ass gases that would seep out from some of the rocks whenever they got hit. Whatever he had been hit with this time around ended up giving him a headache so bad he felt like he had been knocked upside the head with a truck, and a constant cough, each one sending waves of unbearable, stinging pain throughout his throat and chest.

Not only that, but his body ached like hell and had grown uncomfortably hot, his limbs so weak that he could barely walk. After inhaling the gas, the effects had been minimal and not so bothersome, but the more time passed the more shitty he began to feel, and by the time he was out of the mines he was so weak that he could barely walk. That, coupled with the cold and snow, made his trek to the hospital a complete struggle.

But eventually, he makes it, and when Jake stumbles into the Alpha Medical Center, he’s so weak that he can barely stand any more. But never one to give in so easily, he manages to push through his pain long enough to reach the reception desk, slumping over it in clear exhaustion and pain as he lets out another cough, gripping at his chest as he hangs his head, speaking to whoever was sitting there through ragged, labored breaths.

“Gas... in the mines.... sick--” He coughs again. Fuck. Jake hated feeling this damn weak, especially in front of so many humans. He was probably a pretty pathetic sight to them right now. “--n-need... medicine...”

There’s Something in the Water|| Xiao Pai & Hiro

@pagingnursehiro Xiao-Pai made her way around the Leuda beach, the afternoon sun feeling good; it wasn’t quite Spring yet, but she could tell things were warming up. She smiled to herself and sighed a bit happily.  After all, she was finally on her own. She finally didn’t have to feel like she lived in the shadow of her mother, she didn’t have to feel like-  Oomph! And she ran right into a person....again. But this was the first time since she moved to Leuda that she had, and maybe that meant something.  “Oh...I’m so sorry!” Xiao Pai said in her thick Chinese accent. “I need to watch where I go....” She said, sighing. “I make these mistakes a lot...I hope you will forgive me, yes?” She asked, holding her hand out to the stranger.

Afternoon Performance - Elise and Hiro

Ever since going to the open mic night a few weeks ago, Elise had found herself wanting to practice her violin more and more. Despite the strange darkness that seemed to be over taking Leuda, her yearnings persisted, and she found herself venturing out to the park time and time again. She knew most people wouldn’t complain if she played in her room, but she still didn’t feel right about subjecting them to her music every day. 

Once again, she found some precious spare time after a shift at the hotel and took a stroll to one of the parks nearby. Finding an area that seemed mostly deserted, she set herself up under a tree and placed the instrument against her shoulder.

After taking in a breath of fresh air, the blonde closed her eyes and began to play, letting the music drown out the rest of the world for a little while. There was something that always relaxed her about playing music, and a gentle smile slowly crossed her face as she worked her magic.

She played for several minutes before she finally opened her eyes, and to her surprise, she found her emerald eyes falling on the face of a stranger. Her heart leaped into her throat and she almost gasped out loud, her pale cheeks growing warm in embarrassment. 

“Y-You startled me!” she stammered out, clearing her throat as she tried to regain her composure. She pursed her lips in a bit of a pout as she mumbled. “I apologize if I was disturbing your walk. I can play somewhere else, if I am being a bother.”

Once again, she was amazed at how well she was able to maintain her composure. A few years ago, she likely would have been furious and bratty, but it seemed she was changing. At least a little bit.
