Catcher in the Pie
Is it only me, but have all become way too touchy to enjoy a simple pie in the face gag??? I blame it on the 50s and President Eisenhower. Salinger, recognizing that America had lost its way created "Catcher in the Rye" and thought it good. Unlike the rest of the literary world who took offense to his book for reason that were more about them, then about the book. At first, I believed it was Holden who was the least touchy. But then I enjoyed a hypothetical custard pie in the face by some bloke in Academia. He was right, though. Holden was only reflecting back at people about what he did not yet fully understand. He was still regurgitating his pie. (I figured this all out because "Catcher in the Rye" was originally titled "Catcher in the Pie". )
