Jean Robic and his wife celebrate his surprise victory in the 1947 Tour de France, Parc des Princes, Paris. The couple married shortly before the Tour began, and he had promised her the winner's yellow jersey as a wedding present. Robic attacked on the final stage to take the overall victory and the maillot jaune from Pierre Brambilla, who could not sustain the chase. The jersey now hangs in the basilica at Sainte-Anne-d'Auray, in Robic's native Brittany. (He insisted he was a Breton born in the Ardennes by mistake…)
