There was a knock on the door. An unexpected one.
Lou couldn’t tell if he was annoyed or intrigued.
“I’ll get it!” Opal announced, galloping towards the door.
“Caillou,” Lou warned as she reached for the handle, quickening his own steps. He reached the door just as she did and pulled it open.
“Hi, Mr. Pip!” Opal chirped, waving eagerly at him as Lou put a hand on her shoulder.
His eyebrow raised at Pip, who greeted him and Opal warmly.
“Why don’t you go watch your brothers?” Lou said after a few moments of polite back and forth. He had a feeling Pip was not here to hear the latest on Opal’s backstroke and search for Atlantis Lake mermaids.
“Okay!” Opal said without much fuss. She liked being in charge of her brothers.
As she scampered off, Lou made sure she wasn’t immediately morphing into a tiny dictator before turning back to Pip with an expectant raise of his eyebrows.
