Hey guys, I need help
In the new book I am planning, I want to be as inclusive as I can possibly be. Therefore, I want to include some disability representation.
What disabilities would you suggest and what tips would you give me to present this/these character/s respectfully?
It's hard to believe my novel has been almost three years in the making, and that the first draft has reached almost 50K views on Wattpad (with the fourth draft being worked on now). I decided it was about time for a new cover image. (I actually finished it while on a cruise this week, which seemed fitting). Which one do you guys like better, the new or old one? #pirate #piratelife #pirateforlife #apirateslifeforme #pirateslife #apirateslife #novel #writer #writing #amwriting #piratenovel #piratebook #piratestory #originalcharacter #oc #owncharacter #characterdesign #characterdevelopment #characterconcept #conceptart #pirateart https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqz0mC5lFj8/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=xoj6hzx36fww
“The Black Serpent’s Treasure: A Thrilling Pirate Adventure"
Join Captain Redbeard and his crew on a mysterious island adventure filled with treasure, ancient magic, and trials of courage. Discover the true meaning of treasure and the bonds of friendship in this exciting pirate tale
In the heart of the Caribbean, where the sun beat down like a thousand fiery drums, there sailed a pirate ship named the "Black Serpent." Captain Redbeard, a man with a beard as fiery as his temper, ruled the waves with an iron fist and a hearty laugh. His crew was a motley bunch, each with their own tales of adventure and misfortune.
One day, as they sailed through the treacherous waters of the Devil's Triangle, they spotted a mysterious island on the horizon. The island was shrouded in a thick mist, and the crew whispered among themselves, wondering if it was a trap or a treasure trove.
Captain Redbeard, ever the daring adventurer, ordered the ship to sail towards the island. As they approached, they saw a hidden cove, perfect for anchoring. The crew disembarked, their eyes wide with excitement and a touch of fear.
The island was lush and green, with towering palm trees and vibrant flowers. But as they ventured deeper, they noticed strange symbols carved into the trees and eerie statues hidden among the foliage. The air was thick with an ancient magic that sent shivers down their spines.
Suddenly, a deep, booming voice echoed through the jungle. "Who dares to disturb the slumber of the ancient ones?" The crew froze, their hearts pounding in their chests. Captain Redbeard, however, stepped forward, his hand on his sword.
"Captain Redbeard of the Black Serpent," he declared. "We mean no harm. We seek only treasure and adventure."
The voice chuckled, and a figure emerged from the shadows. It was an old, wise-looking man, his eyes glowing with a mysterious light. "Very well," he said. "But be warned, the treasure you seek is guarded by trials of courage, wisdom, and strength."
The crew exchanged determined looks and followed the old man deeper into the island. They faced riddles that tested their wit, obstacles that challenged their strength, and puzzles that required their courage. One by one, they overcame each trial, their bond growing stronger with every challenge.
Finally, they stood before a massive treasure chest, its surface adorned with jewels and gold. Captain Redbeard opened it with a flourish, revealing a fortune beyond their wildest dreams. But as they reached for the treasure, the old man spoke again.
"Remember, true treasure is not measured in gold, but in the bonds you forge and the adventures you share."
The crew nodded, their hearts filled with a newfound respect for each other and the old man's wisdom. They took what they needed and left the rest, knowing that the real treasure was the journey they had undertaken together.
As they sailed away from the mysterious island, the crew of the Black Serpent laughed and sang, their hearts light and their spirits high. They had found more than just treasure; they had found a deeper understanding of what it meant to be a pirate—and a family.

Maiden Scorned
The albatross swung like a pendulum over the inky tides, its wings twisting in one way or another, approaching the ship at a cripple’s pace. Young Jotham Bullock was the first to see it, and shouted with such alarm that men were tripping over themselves to get to the deck. It was a mere white speck against the green sky, but it brought many a sense of hope and purpose.
There was only one man unaffected by the sight before them. His pale eyes watched it with both amusement and fatigue. Twice he had seen it, as well as witnessed all the death it brought. What friends has Merrill Mathis lost? Dozens, at least. Of course... it hasn’t been all bad. He tapped his gold ring against the toothy grin splitting his handsome face.
Closer, the details of the albatross were bared. It seemed to be rotting from the inside out--holes in its feathers, dents in its beak, sagging in its skin--no doubt assisted by greedier pirates.
Mathis jumped from the upper deck and down to join his men.
“Cap’n! Cap’n the albatross! It’s the albatross!” Bullock, a scrawny, mop-headed boy of 19 was near jumping out of his dirty skin.
“Captain,” Timothy Guy was smiling for the first time in months (which saved them of the rotten spectacle hiding behind those lips) and he clasped Mathis’s shoulder, “At last, we’ve got purpose.”
It was almost to them now, and the Captain was always unnerved by its size. From far, it was a normal bird. However...
“BACK UP,” he shouted, sweeping his arm to herd the group of joyous filth from the edge of the ship.
The bird dropped onto the railing unceremoniously, claws digging into the wood. It stood to its full height, just short of the mast’s. Its black, empty eyes were as big as their heads, its claws were as long as short swords, and its legs were thick as tree trunks. It flapped its rotting wings a couple more times, causing the pointed hat to fly right off of Mathis’s head, tossing his silver hair behind him. The monstrosity’s head dipped low, locking gaze with the captain. Its crooked black beak lunged out and bit the Captain’s head off--or at least that’s what Merrill imagined it wanted to do.
Instead, it stood erect and spread out its wings--a span long enough to encompass half of the ship. Its beak lunged underneath its arm and started scratching at it in the same way a dog chewed off fleas. But instead of a giant bug, it pulled something long, dark, and thin. In comparison to the bird, it looked like a toothpick. When it was lowered, however, the crew was shown a leather tube, about as long as a man’s arm.
The massive maw pushed it into the captain’s chest. It took all his strength for Mathis not to fall over. He grabbed it from the bird, a shaken smile on his lips. He unscrewed the top of the tube and pulled forth a tied parchment. The rest of his men crowded behind him, trying to see the words although more than half couldn’t read.
The captain’s dexterous fingers unrolled the paper greedily.
Captain Merrill Mathis
Fame and fortune awaits you.
The Maiden Scorned is one of eight who has been chosen to participate in The Hunt, a contest that grants the victors access to a treasure beyond their imaginations.
Every ship has been given a shred of the Map, and within each piece is the location of a key. Collect all the keys and all the map pieces to win.
Murder and betrayal is encouraged, but not required.
Your first key is hidden in the sky, within the bones of a Lover.
You have two moons.
Hold out your hand to accept.
X
Merill whispered this to himself, his grin flashing the gold teeth hidden between molars.
“What do you say, lads?” His voice boomed with renewed vigor, “Ready for a Hunt?”
He needn’t wait for his crew to agree, he was already holding out his hand, thick with scars. One more won’t hurt.
The bird’s head bobbed in place, black eyes trying to make sense of the gesture. Or perhaps it was giving him a chance to change his mind. After a few seconds, however, its beak lunged forward. The sharp hook at the end--with a touch unnaturally controlled--carved in the Captain’s hand a deep “X”. It burned, feeling more like a brand than a cut. Thick, black blood dropped to the wood with a PLOP!
Tendrils sprouted from it with alarming speed, shooting through the ship’s frame like veins. Crewmates jumped up in alarm as the wood beneath their feet was being engulfed in black. Merill enjoyed the sight with a wicked pleasure.
Within moments, The Maiden Scorned was as black as the harsh eyes of the albatross. Satisfied, the bird’s rotten wings started flapping once more--tossing half the crew to the floor. Just as fast as it came, the damned thing was gone.
Reaching back into the tube, the Captain brought forth a square of parchment barely larger than his hand.
It was blank.
“Well,” spoke the lanky man behind Mathis, “That’s disappointing.”
“Wait,” the Captain hissed.
They waited.
Black ink bloomed within the center of the paper, as if being soaked in blood. It broke apart, and spun about in a theatrical display of magic. When it finished moving, a small map had been laid out. The edge of an island could be made out, with small palm trees waving in a fake breeze. The indications of waves moved back and forth, and a small fish-like monster poked its head out for a moment. As intriguing as this was, the burning red “X” is what caught the Captain’s attention.
“Woss that?” Bullock asked, pointing to a black speck in the corner beginning to take form. It readjusted itself into a small ship. Mathis grinned.
“That’s us,” he couldn’t stop the spew of laughter bursting from his chest, “Yes, that’s us alright. OKAY, LADS, GET TO YOUR POSITIONS.”
They scattered like bugs, grabbing at ropes and pulleys. The Captain continued his chuckling all the way to the wheel. Holding the parchment before him, he smiled.
“What direction are we headed, Cap’n?” His First-Mate growled, his thick beard quaking in the breeze. Mathis turned the parchment around and pointed to the small ship, “South, Jarvis, we go South.”
