Ends never came when you thought they would.
Because ends always looked an awful lot like middles. The breath before didn't seem so different until you exhaled and realized that you were someplace completely different. That the world had changed and there was no way to go back.
This wasn't supposed to end like this. It was supposed to be like this.
They weren't supposed to be here.
"Okay, Peaches," Nashville muttered, hauling Peter up into his arms. Half the kid's legs were blown off, electricity sparking around his form. "Nobody's dying today. You're gonna do that jumpy thing."
They were half a click from the Pelican. He couldn't drag Peter's body and fire his weapons, so. Only one thing left to do.
He kissed Peter's forehead, smiling down at him.
"Jump in, kiddo. We're going for a walk."
