supervision - who am i (co-produced by michal menert)
oh, okay then. so tonight's show is going to be even better than i was thinking, i'm happy to discover. some of supervision's music just sounds like stock PL music stuff, with nothing to distinguish it from the rest (just a first impression), but i'm really enjoying this track a lot. it reminds me of a slightly less subtle blockhead beat, which isn't a bad thing at all. the comparison comes from the gradual evolution of the samples, which don't stagnate, just smoothly flow into a new instrumental or chopped vocal passage. other than the dubsteppy textures involved, that's the element that separates music like this from instrumental hip-hop as we used to know it. i'm not opposed to the mellow vibes of a tastefully executed loop or two for a few minutes, but in most cases, development is key. 'who am i' gives listeners a wealth of melodies to latch onto as it meanders, capturing both the delicacy of an string-laden orchestra and the power of dubstep basslines.
