NGC 6543 - The Cat’s Eye Nebula
This beautiful planetary nebula 3,300 light years from our Sun in the constellation of Draco began to blow off stellar mass in waves around 1,500 years ago. The star itself is still shrinking and still in the process of shedding material into space, as it slowly becomes a white dwarf star, where it will remain for many billions of years to come.
