Plaquemine City Hall, Plaquemine, LA. The annual meeting of Louisiana firemen was adjourned on August 31, 1912 at 1:30pm so-- "the delegates could march in a body to the court house square and there participate in the unveiling of a monument commemorating the memory of the confederate dead, which erected through the enduring efforts of the members of Chapter No. 739, United Daughters of the Confederacy. The unveiling of this monument was one of the most impressive ceremonies ever witnessed in Iberville Parish. People in great numbers were gathered in the court house square. The ceremonies were opened with a prayer by Rev. Father Gerard Bosch, pastor of St. John's Roman Catholic Church and Paul Barron, a local attorney and senior member of the law firm of WIlbert & Barron, was a master of ceremonies and made a pleasing address, dwelling on the Lost Cause and the untiring efforts of the daughters in erecting the monument. Mrs. J Y Allison historian of the Louisiana division of UDC delivered an interesting address. The monument was then unveiling amid shrieking of whistles, booming of canons and shouting of people. Music was rendered during the ceremonies." -Fire and Water Engineering, Volume 52 from July 1, 1912 to January 1, 1913.
