He's trying to hide the gift he already has for her although he's pretty sure he's missed the mark completely but he may as well try since she's his only niece and he thinks he knows her pretty well.

"A motorcycle." Rachel answered with absolute certainty and finality. So what if she was only eleven. They could keep it in the garage until she got her license. And uncle Alex didn't have to know Mom and Dad said no.

“I told you you’d get sick.”

“I’m not sick,” Leo says, burying his hands into the crook of his elbows as a full-body shudder racks his frame. Denial is Leonard’s best friend. “Alex, if you keep saying it it’ll be true.”

    Leo’s had this squirming feeling in his gut for the last few hours, a few hours of torture and discomfort, a few hours of rapidly rising tension that makes him snap at people. He’s usually kind, quick to help, but this tension makes his stomach curl and his head fog.

    He’s so wrapped up in what he’s feeling that he doesn’t even notice when he bumps into Alex, colliding with his chest. Leo’s skin flares as he automatically takes the brunt of the impact, power shimmering before it tempers and fades into his skin, and Leo snarls out a warning, hazel eyes glinting dangerously in the sun.

    Watch where you’re going.

"Unca Alex!!!" The five year old Rachel shrieked as she raced over to the older man beaming and plowed into him hugging him around the leg. She loved it when he came to visit. "What did you bring me?"

"I've tried to figure out how to say this for a long time."

    Say what? And come in, by the way.

Leo doesn’t move from his spot on the couch in his quarters, curled up in casual wear, PADD on his lap. In fact, he’s so comfortable he doesn’t even look at Alex, instead beckons him in with a wave of his fingers.

    Don’t let the cold air come in with you.

    And maybe they don’t approve of sex. We know very little about this species, Alex, and it’s unfair of us t’be cavortin’ around like lovesick fools when Starfleet’s depending on us to get the negotiations!

    Damn Alex. Damn him, damn him, because Leo’s got the words, not the heat, and he has to look up at his Captain, pupils dilated and breath coming fast.

    Leo’s shocked, when he manages to tear his gaze from searching Alex’s face and looks down, to find that his hands are on Alex’s hips, keeping him close. He swallows against the lump in his throat, gaze tracking back up to Alex’s lips face as the color spreads across his nose. 

    And maybe, just maybe, he just doesn’t want to admit that he wants this too much.

“Come here, quick!”

    Negotiations. Some sort of distant planet-- distant from Earth, not distant from them-- and Alex’s got Leo down there as his second-in-command since the XO’s got the conn. Leo’s not really paying attention to what’s going on, as he’s got his head wrapped around a complex medical issue that’s cropped up lately, so he’s only half-listening to Alex as he explains exactly where they are and where they’re going.

    And then he hears the words. Leo’s head snaps up; he’s already following orders, stepping closer into Alex’s body heat, gaze tracking around the area they’re in to identify the threat that’s got his Captain worried--

    And Alex kisses him.

    And Leo. Fucking. Melts.

    It’s a few minutes before he manages to recover, and when he does he steps away, twin spots of color high on his cheeks. Leo shoves at Alex’s shoulders-- not as strong as he’d like-- and folds his arms across his chest.

    What th’hell were you thinking? Anybody could have seen us!

    But he’s not as furious as he wants to be-- he gaze tracks between Alex’s eyes and his lips, and he licks his own, desperately wanting to step back in.
