Taking a Platinum Printing Workshop from @scott_b_davis and with 2 other students, Tom and Sheri. Can’t believe it’s taken me 40 years to do this😳. I have always loved learning and even at 63 years old I still get a buzz off of photography. Born in 1891, she is known for her photographs of Native Americans, particularly the Navajo and Pueblo tribes, and southwestern landscapes. For her 12th birthday, Gilpin received a Kodak Brownie Camera which she practiced for years. As an adolescent, her mother sent her to East Coast boarding schools; on one of these trips, Gilpin had her portrait taken by famed photographer Gertrude Kasebier. Kasebier eventually became Gilpin's mentor, and they stayed lifelong friends. in 1916 Gilpin began studying photography in New York City, enrolling in the Clarence White School and taking advice from Kasebier. She learned the platinum printing process - and became known as one of the great platinum printing photographers of all time.
