Shelly stood off to the side, hands folded in front of her.
"Sharon?.." She spoke, looking up at the human.
Sharon perked up, looking down at the fossil, a hand on her hip. She smiled. "Yeah?"
"Do.. the kids not like me?" Her voice nearly cracked.
She looked back over at Vee, who was being bombarded.
Looked over at Astro, who was being clung to.
Sprout, giving and receiving treats.
Dandy and Pebble... Pebble getting belly rubs, Dandy being told how loved he was.
Sharon's smile faded, her eyes filling with concern. "Of course they do!"
Her words didn't seem to do anything... considering the lack of kids surrounding Shelly.
Sharon noticed, kneeling down to her toons level, placing a hand on her back. "You're just as important and loved as the others."
"You can even ask Vee herself!"
Those words stook out.
She looked down at her hands, the words echoing in her mind.
Ask Vee herself.
Vee hummed her theme song, tidying up her room.
"It's she... it's Vee..." she sung quietly, her tail swaying behind her.
A knock at her door made her jolt, her antennas sparking. "Ugh... be right there!"
She sighed, putting her curled up poster down.
Ver walked over to the door, opening it with a creak. "Who--" her demeanor softened slightly.
"Ah, Shelly! My dearest friend, how may I help?" She put on a dashing grin, her grip easing on the doorknob.
Shelly blinked, looking at the toon in front of her.
Charming.
Standing out.
Confident.
Everything she wasn't.
"Hey, Vee.." she rubbed her arm, her usual happiness faded. "Can I come in?"
"Why, of course! Please, make yourself at home." Vee stepped aside, inviting Shelly in.
Hospitable.
Shelly walked inside, glancing around. Lots of posters of Vee... one of her and the TV.
"You have... a lot of screen time, huh?" Shelly sat down, hands in her lap.
Vee's antennas sparked, her grin appearing as she shut the door with theatrics.
"Why, of course! The kids were practically begging!" She laughed, twirling her tail between her fingers, sitting on the edge of her bed.
Shelly's mood faltered more as she sat down next to her friend. She fidgeted with her fingers, suddenly nervous.
"Um, Vee?.. Can we... talk?" She looked over, her eyes showing a vulnerability she never wanted to show.
Vee paused - her grin fading somewhat. "Uh... well, sure." She shrugged, uncomfortable with the sudden shift in mood.
"I... am I an important toon?"
Vee blinked, before laughing. Clutching her stomach laughing.
Shelly shrunk, her face mixed with confusion and a sudden self-consciousness.
"HAHA-!! Oho-- oh, whahat kinda question is thahat?! You're a main, Shelly! Obviously you're important!" Vee snickered, waving her hand dissmissivly.
Shelly sucked in a breath, shaking her head. "No!- I mean... yes, I'm a main character, I just..." she sighed, wrapping her arms around herself.
"Am I... more than just my title?.." Shelly looked over, tears welling up in her eyes.
She wanted-- no... no, she had to know.
Vee's smile and laughter faded as she took in her friends insecurity.
"Well, y-yeah, obviously.. you know cool dinosaur facts.."
"So do you..."
Vee gulped, chuckling nervously. "Okay, bad example! Um..."
She jolted when Shelly grabbed her wrist. Gentle but firm.
"I don't need examples... I just need you." Her eyes were glossy, putting another hand atop of hers.
Vee blushed a bit, before she sighed, her shoulders dropping. "...Then.. yeah."
She suddenly wrapped Shelly into an embrace. A tight one.
"You're way more than just your title to me." Vee murmered, burying her face in Shelly's shoulder.
Shelly paused. Froze.
She sniffled, wrapping her arms around Vee, tears streaming down, broken hiccups and sobs leaving her.
Vee held tighter, her tail swishing behind her slowly.
"Don't cry.." she hummed, pulling away, cupping Shelly's face.
The fossil frowned, letting the TV wipe her tears away.
Vee wasn't usually this... tender or "soft".
Shelly intertwined her right fingers in with Vee's, the two lying down on the bed together.
"Why don't you be my special guest on my show tomorrow?.." Vee hummed, looking into Shelly's eyes.
"...Y-Yeah.." Shelly sniffled, giving Vee that greatful, small smile. "I'd like that."
Vee returned the smile, giving Shelly's hand a gentle squeeze. "So would I."
A silence stretched over - the two toons looking down.
Vee suddenly sighed, her tail flinging over and vibrating against Shelly's side - sending a ticklish tingle throughout her body.
The fossil squeaked - clutching Vee's hand - giggles bubbling out.
"EEP-!! VeeeEEHEHEHEHEEE!!" She curled up, her feet kicking.
"Gettin' a bit too mushy for my liking..." Vee explained poorly, still holding Shelly's hand.
"NUHUHUH UHUHUHuhuh!! EEP! HEHEHEHEHE!!!" Shelly squealed as Vee's microphone pressed a bit deeper.
Vee smiled slightly. Seeing Shelly giggly and... happy made her happy.
"What? Does it tickle that much?" Vee teased, lightly scratching under Shelly's chin.
Shelly scrunched up, grabbing Vee's wrist weakly with her free hand. "YeheheheEEHEHEHES!!!"
Her laughter grew higher whenever Vee would nuzzle her microphone "deeper."
Vee snorted. "It can't be that bad."
"Tryhy-- IIIEEE!!! EEHEHEHEHEHE!!!" Shelly cackled, burying her flushed face in Vee's pillow.
"Try what, exactly? Try it for myself?"
Shelly nodded, her shoulders jolting with every nuzzle.
"Pfft-- noho way! That's insanity." Vee shook her head, ruffling Shelly's.
Shelly couldn't speak. She was too busy giggling up a storm, tears if joy pricking at the corner of her eyes.
"Doho you want me to switch somewhere else?"
Shelly's eyes snapped open, nodding frantically. "PLEHEHEHEASE!! EEEEAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"
She buried her face further in Vee's palm, eyes slamming shut, howling with laughter.
"Fine, fine.." Vee chuckled, her tail moving to her back - the vibrations lowering.
"Ehehe-! Ehehe... thahank-- hehehe!!" Shelly squeezed Vee's hand, the TV returning the squeeze.
"You okay?" Vee scooted a bit closer, her head resting against Shelly's.
"Yeheheah!.." Shelly hiccuped, leaning against Vee.
"Good." She paused. "One more for good measure."
"WHAHAHAT?!"
Vee's tail slipped over to Shelly's ribs, the vibrations highing.
"NOOHOHOHOHO!! EEK!!-" Shelly clung to Vee again. "OHOHOKAHAHAY- STAHAHAHAP!!"
Vee snickered, watching Shelly squeak and giggle for two more seconds before stopping, rubbing the fossils back. Her tail wiggled back over behind her.
Shelly giggled, her heart thumping against her chest. "Ehe... thahank.. thahanks, Vee.."
"Yeah, yeah... get goin'. You need proper rest."
Vee sat up, standing - guiding Shelly with her.
They entangled their hands, Vee opening the door. "For the show, obviously..."
Shelly paused in the doorway, turning around to look at Vee. "Wait... you were serious?"
Her eyes shone, that genuine grin reappearing.
Vee cleared her throat, tugging at her bowtie - a flush creeping across her cheeks. "I'm... a woman of my word."
Shelly squealed, wrapping her arms around Vee in one last tight hug. "Oh, thank you, thank you!!"
She practically bounced away from Vee's room, waving. "See you soon!!"
Vee waved, shutting her door. When she did, her tail wagged behind her.
She looked down at the hand that she used to hold Shelly's hand - a smile twitching at her lips.
She chuckled, shaking her head - walking back to the poster on her desk.
"Dork..."
