#please stop using epithets#unless that's how a character would naturally think of that person#do you think of your sibling as 'the brunet(te)?'#then neither does your character#if they have a title#then yeah maybe#but honestly read a (well-written) book#and tell me how often a character thinks of a family member#or friend#or lover#or co-worker#or anyone else they know well#by anything but their name#i'm no writing expert#but epithets are clunky and unnatural#just use a name#or a pronoun#there are exceptions#but they're rare#and if you aren't sure#ask yourself how you'd think of that person in your own mind#(note that stuff like 'mom' counts as a name#so don't be pedantic#i'm talking thinking of your mother as 'the tall blonde'#you don't do you?)
