Last December 2, 2011 I participated in the fifth School of Architecture- Industrial Design and the Built Environment (AR-ID-BE) Research Colloquium, which was held at the Plenary Hall of Mapua Institute of Technology in Intramuros, Manila. This annual event is in line with the celebration of the National Architecture week. This program fosters and supports the efforts of the school in furthering research in the academe and the industry whereby deriving fruitful benefits to the community. I presented my thesis, which is entitled, A Case study applying Aaron Antonovsky’s Salutogenic Approach in the Proposed Nursing home design for Hospicio de San Jose in Quiapo, Manila.
The event was a success. There were four research studies presented. Topics ranged from green architecture, Salutogenic design and Japanese art. Two of the presenters, Ms. Katrina Vanessa Aterrado and yours truly, are from the student body of the department of Architecture and Interior Design while the other two speakers, Arch. Jonathan Dangue and IDr. Vincent Louie Tan are established design professionals. During the program, there was also a panel of reactors. The group consisted of IDr. Catherine Reodique, Arch. Aristeo Garcia, and Arch. Michelle Pernia.
After the colloquium, we were each awarded with a token of appreciation and a certificate of recognition for our valuable contribution. The Dean of the School of AR-ID-BE, Arch. /EnP. Gloria B. Teodoro spearheaded this event.
Later on, Arch. Teodoro treated us all to a dinner party at the 9Spoons World Bistro located at The Bayleaf in Intramuros. An exclusive social gathering was being held at the penthouse that is why we were served at the posh rooftop level. Upon arrival, amiable staff members of the restaurant warmly greeted and assisted us to our seats. Soothing lounge music played in the air as we marvelled on the 360-degree view from the top. Metro Manila’s skyline glistened beautifully! I wish I had a camera with me.
Moving on, we enjoyed a hefty serving of mouth-watering and delectable dishes. I personally liked the Bayleaf Burger and their signature-iced tea. As the night progressed, rain started to pour. After leaving Bayleaf, we expressed our thanks to Dean Teodoro and went our separate ways.
Last Friday night..♫ Do it all again!
