My Week Without Instagram Insights
I decided to stop checking my stats for seven days. No reach, no engagement rate, no saves. Nothing.
At first, it felt like quitting caffeine. I kept catching myself opening the app, thumb already moving toward the Insights button. It’s strange how fast numbers become comfort — or control. You think they help you improve, but sometimes they just help you worry better.
By day three, I started posting differently. More freely. I didn’t overthink the timing or the hashtags. I didn’t wonder if the algorithm liked me that day. I just posted what felt good.
By day seven, something shifted. The silence that used to feel like failure turned into space. I could finally hear my own thoughts again, not the echo of metrics.
When I finally checked my stats, they hadn’t dropped. In fact, engagement had slightly grown. Which says a lot about how much energy I waste on refreshing numbers instead of connecting with people.
I use Plixi to understand what’s happening behind the scenes, but that week reminded me something no dashboard can show — that meaning isn’t always measurable. Sometimes the best metric is how light you feel when you post without fear.
