Did you see Spobsy's gifset tags that said it was ooc for Toby not to step in in 3B? What do you think?
Well, now I looked haha. But I don’t know. I’ve always been caught between two head canons that either Toby was so scared if he stepped in he’d make Spencer’s life even worse or endanger her further, OR he only knows the big details like “she saw a dead body that looked like you” & “she is now in radley”. Like he avoids thinking about it too much because the guilt will consume him. It isn’t OOC for him either, who has a tendency to run when life gets hard.
But, I mean anyone who reads this tell me, am I the only one who notices Toby gets this really awful look on his face, like so guilty, and his tone completely changes too when 3B comes up. Like even beyond the scene in the motel when he cried (and when she was waltzing towards him later he had the most guilty expression on his face), in 4x03 he was talking and then once Spencer implied going into Radley, his expression changed and his tone was completely different when he said “You’d go back there?” And in 4x12 when Spencer mention finding his dead body, he changed the subject quickly, wanting to get off that topic and in 4x14 he was listing off people at Radley and then Spencer listed herself and his expression once again changed and then he changed the subject. I’m just saying, I think it’s intentional. I thought before they were going to revisit it later and like he never asks and she never tells because its like an elephant in the room but I thought they’d talk in 4B and now it seems almost too late to talk about it but it kind of still seems like they’re leading up to it… .I don’t know, maybe I’m crazy.
Or maybe Toby believed she was strong enough(everyone seems to think Spencer’s unbreakable) to handle everything in 3B so when he was wrong it shocked him or maybe he just hated himself so much he fell off the face of the earth.
