November 12, 2025 - Rüppell's Weaver (Ploceus galbula) Found in parts of Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, and Kenya, these weavers live in savannas, grasslands, wetlands, and cultivated areas. They eat seeds, foraging in small, or sometimes very large, flocks, often with other species. Often nesting in colonies, males breed with up to three females. They weave ball-shaped nests from grass or strips of palm fronds, lining them with plant down, feathers, and leaves. Females incubate clutches of two or three eggs and brood the chicks. Males feed the chicks for the first few days after they hatch, then both parents feed them.
