PMx Twitter Chat: Adriel Luis from Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center

We are looking forward to starting off our PMx Twitter Chat with Adriel Luis, Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center. 

Adriel Luis ( drzzl )  is a self-taught musician, poet, curator, coder, and visual artist who believes imagination is key to transforming cultural paradigms. Originally from the California Bay Area and previously living in New York City and Beijing, Adriel is currently based in Washington DC as the Curator of Digital and Emerging Media at the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center. He is also a part of digital funk band iLL-Literacy, a founding curator for OneBeat – a U.S. State Department initiative that engages artists from dozens of countries to convene in cultural diplomacy through music, and artistic director of Bombshelltoe – an online platform dedicated to bridging nuclear issues with pop culture. Adriel frequently travels to different parts of Asia with particular interest in how digital space shapes global communities, and how varying levels of freedom of expression channel artistic political imagination. Adriel can be found across online platforms as @DRZZL.

An Xiao Mina is another guest for our PMx Twitter Chat

An Xiao Mina ( anxiaostudio)  is an artist, writer and creative technologist passionate about the space where art and technology meet social change and human rights issues. She is co-founder of The Civic Beat, a research group and media consultancy focused on social change memes in global contexts. In the tech sector, An works at the SF-based Meedan Labs as product owner for Translatedesk, a platform for social translation of social media. Their first project aims to translate geolocated tweets for Out of Eden Walk, a global journey tracing the historic path of human migration led by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Paul Salopek.

An has spoken at venues like ROFLCon, Twitter University and Creative Mornings, and she has contributed writing to publications like The Atlantic, Wired and the Los Angeles Review of Books. She was a 2013 fellow at the USC Annenberg / Getty Arts Journalism Program and serves as a consulting editor to the New York online art publication Hyperallergic. Having recently served as a section editor for Ai Weiwei: Spatial Matters (published by MIT Press and Tate Publishing), she is currently working on a book about online creative culture and civic engagement around the world. PMx Twitter Chat: Laura Hyunjhee Kim

One of our awesome guests for PMx Twitter Chat tomorrow: 

Laura Hyunjhee Kim ( lauraonsale )  is an interdisciplinary artist who primarily works with video, performance and the internet as a creative tool and platform for distribution. Quoting and re-contextualizing from autobiographical references, art history to mass media, she pulls source materials from the everyday including her own social media feeds. Appropriating familiar imagery and stylistic formalities from popular culture, Kim focuses on being an instigator and commentator embedding absurd deadpan humor, satire and parody as a means to generate conversation. Kim's recent works have been subjected to her "It's Complicated" relationship with online communities and technology that heavily rely on the Internet.

Kim has shown work in numerous on/offline exhibitions and was the recipient of the 2013 ArtSlant Award in New Media. Shereceived her B.S. in Art from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and M.F.A. from the New Genres Department, San Francisco Art Institute. Kim currently resides and works in San Francisco, California.
