Ten Word Poem Series, poem #53
I could say "fuck it all,"
but nothing would change.
So many people I'd rather spend my time with,
But they're so far away, I'm afraid to say,
"I'll be taking a dinner for one to go please,"
And maybe I'll take a glance around the town,
wondering if I'm only one
who can't seem to find a friend who understands and sees
the world as I do,
Or maybe I've done that too many times already.
As I sit here on this Thanksgiving day alone,
no dinner to eat, an apartment for a home,
I wonder about the friends I've yet to meet
and the ones I never will;
I think about the times I had as a kid with my family,
the laughing, crying and fighting -
I think about the people who've stared at me as if I were a monster
instead of asking me, "How do you do?"
It's not self pity,
it's just my love and hate for this city,
far away from people who care,
While being close to ones who never will.
On this day, my day alone, while the nation laughs and spends another year together,
I feel for all those like me,
wondering where the time is going
and how much is left to make it all worth while.
Light Givers
There's no story too long or a wind too brisk, Just a meltdown volcano in the cavity of my chest, A wreck of a man who can't see straight, But is locked at the top of a faraway place, A scab, a bone, a throwaway stone, at the middle of a peak in the alliance of a Stand, but tonight's not the night to play games in my head or create memories based on the dread of never being able to find a home or peace,
or the steps here between a river and the sea, but can't you see inside of me?Can't you understand what it's like to feel the backlash of your degrading, iridescent souls, pounding away on a door that leads to nowhere at all, but everywhere at once,
inside the deep well of my heart, that feels like it will last forever, but will fade just like a dwarfed star tumbling away from its brethren of light givers.
The world creeps by without you even knowing it,
And the mid-winter plummet from the good to the bad
keeps the fire in your stomach,
Pushing you to try a little harder and be a little better
until summer comes and takes it away,
like a missed bus and the time it takes to wait for another;
They say patience is a virtue, but I think they're full of shit,
An excuse designed to keep the layman down while the
idiosyncratic vultures rule the day, sleeping in their beds
while children cry for a warm hole to crawl into and dream
of the day when they can feel happiness in their hearts and an abundance of
others to keep them company so they don't have to carry the pain of
always being five steps behind everyone else.
The light is free, while the dark is a part of being human,
And the Earth knows you're there, with your feet on top, walking around with a
glorified, pale, stricken face, and a mouth that would erase the thoughts from
anybody's mind,
leaving behind the sweats and the longing to find a way to get fucked up on an
old December day, just to ease the pain away, just to feel the same as all the
people who think they have it all figured out, but haven't even scratched the
proverbial surface of this strange phenomena we call life.
I used to be empty,
but now I'm not,
I'm so full of the world
that it makes up my bones and blood and brain,
And every atom in my tiny little body
are always leaving just to start anew;
My sad will never end,
My hope will never fail,
My time is slim, My mind plays tricks
And I've missed a train or two,
but that's okay,
Another is on its way.
Obstacles
If you misunderstand me,
Like many often do,
Speak up, I'll repeat
each word as they roll off my
held back tongue,
withering in complete and utter agony
over mundane obstacles bound together so effortlessly,
deeming me doomed to ponder and feel aware
of not only myself, but of others as well;
of the creeping, underlying feeling that sits
elegant-like in the chasms of my stomach,
my hands are restless,
my legs wont move,
And time and time again
the million suns overhead
spin faster and faster as if
I didn't exist.
Ten Word Poem
More money wont make happiness,
Only love can bring peace.
