SenseFly drones mapping Matterhorn in 6 hours, resulting in a point cloud with 3 million points. Some visualizations on mapbox, including a WebGL renderer of a reduced point cloud and a 2D map with the imagery at original resolution. (Appeared on New Scientist and golem.)
storing point clouds in the volume
maybe it's possible to store an "element" per voxel in the volume to represent a surface in that voxel. Something like:

This may be a way to convert the current cubic world into a polygonal mesh. The question is how much can we compress this. Right now I use a single byte per voxel.
