2016: Year of Action
Me, Chris, & Joe moved into the pointy house on Clay Street in February of 2007, with Ted to join us that summer. I lived there for four years, the longest any one house I have lived in other than my parents’ house, with members of my closest circle of friends cycling out and in. When I moved down to Texas, it stayed within the family, with friends from my poetry family moving into its room. And so when I moved back to the Northwest, there was space in the house for me to move back into for the time being. Had no idea when Chris came and scooped me up 9 years ago to go look at this house we’d heard back on, how large it would loom in our lives. How funny to think the name Ric gave it (which some of us were against––we were more down for Sausage House, as we were eating mad sausages that first summer there) would stick in the ears of lot of people some of us would never meet (I remember a couple years back when Taylor emailed some of us asking if we had ever done a show at a place in Portland called “The Pointy House” not knowing it was the place I had lived). I love that it’s still here, still a part of my life. How good it feels to have entered into this new year inside its walls, with Pointy House fam present and past, in the company of some of the people who I am most grateful for, standing in the foyer voicing what our plans of action were for the upcoming year, feeling like it felt back in 2004 when we started up an art gallery together. So sayonara Year of the Bevy, wish I could say I loved you. But I don’t. Here’s to 2016, Year of Action. I have a feeling I’m gonna like you..
