Ashton not knowing how to do his little girl, Makena’s hair would be a big problem. He would try to look up tutorials to put her hair in a braid or in nice pigtails but he could never do it right. Everything about it was so complicated and he didn’t know how to tie a bow right or braid hair. He would do his best to make sure her hair was at least brushed before they left for school and sometimes he would put it in a high pony but that was all he knew how to do. After a mishap at the grocery store, one of those tiny rubber hair ties would get it stuck in Makena’s hair.
Ashton had no clue what to do and neither did any of the other boys and YouTube just made it worse until his daughter was crying because he broke her hair. As a last resort he knocked on his next door neighbors apartment door. That was how he officially met you other than side glances getting mail or being in the elevator together. He would be asking for help- nearly begging, when you let him inside and assessed the problem. His little girl was standing behind him with tears streaming down her face and a seemingly permanent frown. The rubber tie came out of the hair fairly quickly and then she would ask you fro more help and braid her hair, this time using regular ties. Ashton would end up thanking you to much and promising if you ever needed anything he would be eager to help out any way he could.
After that morning Makena would sneak out while he was making her pancakes and ask you to do something different with her hair each morning. When she walked in on you painting you own nails he would ask you to do hers in the same color. You eventually started finding different hair ribbons in your apartment from when she would bring multiple over and ask you what color fits her outfit best and then to tie it at the end of her braid or the top of her pony tail in a tight bow.
She would brag to her daddy about how you painted her nails the same color as yours and then she would get the idea that you should paint Ashton’s to match also. When he refused saying he didn’t think it was for him Makena pouted until he gave in and Makena raced to you apartment and asked you to do his own. Every other week after that he would find himself seated at your dining table with you painting all of their nails. His little girl would paint yours occasionally and even though it was messy she was gleaming the entire time and afterwards would claim how good of a job she did.
Following that whenever the pair went grocery shopping Ashton would find himself in the nail aisle with Makena requesting that they buy you a new color as repayment. Every other week Makena would be studying each color and deciding if it was too similar to the one that they used a few weeks back until she found the right one. Ashton hated when it was a glitter one because they were extra hard to get off but you loved that they would stay on more. Every time he was sitting at yur dining table he would apologize for being a burden and you would brush him off each time he did.
It wasn’t until almost a year after the hair catastrophe that Makena turned six and you were insisting that she had to have a birthday party and invite all of her new friends from school over. Ashton spent the whole weekend cleaning up his apartment so that the party could happen and you occupied Makena by teaching her how to braid your hair. It was a good thing you weren’t tender headed. Ashton bought her a cake and had Makena hand out invitations to everyone in class. Her whole class didn’t show, a lot of the boys didn’t go because of the tea party theme but a few were made to by their mothers or fathers.
For the first time in what felt like years, Ashton was relaxed and wasn’t freaking out over if there would be people at her party her age or if there would be too much cake left over. His little girl blew out her candles with a wish Ashton never thought she would be wishing. The week following the party, he was once again in the nail art aisle helping Makena look at the new shades when she grabbed one from the bottom shelf and tugged on his shirt enough to get his attention. He froze up when he heard the words come out of her mouth, her voice barely above a whisper as she help the bottle up for him.
“Can you buy mommy this new nail polish- it has dolphin sparkles? She likes them.” and he wouldn’t know what to say because he’s never heard her call anyone mommy because she never had one to call. Of course she would occasionally ask Ashton the obvious question of ‘where mommy was’ but that was the only time he could ever remember her saying that. He would end up not replying because what can he say when Makena calls someone ‘mommy’ for the first time?
Ashton would be snapped out of his trance when Makena tugged on his shirt sleeve and shook the nail polish at him. He would lift her into the basket and kiss her temple and tell her, “Anything you want buttercup.” He could hardly stand being there with all the thoughts running through his head but Makena would insist that they were out of his juice and couldn’t leave until they had it.
After Makena fell asleep Ashton went across the hall and the second you answered the door he would be inside and kissing you. It wasn’t even planned, he was going to tell you what she had said but the moment you opened the door his plan was out the window and he couldn’t stop himself.
When you finally broke apart he would almost be panting and his lips still brushing yours as he spoke, “I- I um, I’m sorry. I don’t usually kiss girls because I don’t want to get too close with someone and my baby getting too attached and then being upset when things don’t work out.” After he back away enough so he wasn’t about to kiss you, he’d continue, “Today at the store, she called you mommy and I didn’t know what to do or what to say because she’s never called anyone that and I just- I didn’t know what to do.”
You could tell in his eyes he really had no clue what his daughter was going through and what a mother daughter bond was, but you and Makena had it, and he didn’t know how to feel about the growing bond. Of course it wasn’t a bad feeling. It was just something he felt in his head and heart and chest. It was something new and he wasn’t used to new things.
It was silent for a few minutes before you responded, your voice barely above a whisper as you moved closer to him, “I’m okay with her calling me that, as long as you are.” You were almost as close as you were when you kissed, you could smell the mint on his breath and feel the water vapor settling on your skin.
The space was closed once again when he kissed you for the second time. His mumble of, “I’m more than okay with that.” was barely heard as he pushed you back until you were sandwiched between him and the wall.
After a few more minutes of kissing Ashton would pull away and invite you to dinner with him. It wasn’t the first tie you would be eating together, but it would be the first time you ate as something more than friends. Ashton was going to cook for you, to surprise you buy he also wanted you there to keep him company while Makena napped.
The surprise was ruined when you heard something shatter and raced into the kitchen to find Ashton surrounded by tiny pieces of glass and sauce. “Don’t move, where do you keep the broom and dustpan?” Once he pointed to the closet you wet to picking up the bigger pieces and throwing them away before using the dustpan to scrape it away from Ashton’s feet. It took a few minutes more to get all the glass you could up and into the trash. He moved the second he could and started helping too by wiping the floor off with an old sponge and getting any small pieces you missed into the trash.
Ashton’s voice broke the silence as he dropped tiny shards of glass onto a tray, “I kinda messed dinner up. I can cook something else but it’ll-”
“Hey, Ash, it’s okay we can just order pizza and you can cook another night, okay?” You rested your hand on his shoulder and waited until he nodded to grab your phone and call the pizza place down the road from your apartment. You knew what both him and Makena liked from the restaurant and ordered what you usually did.
Makena woke up from her nap minutes after the pizza arrived and when she saw you and Ashton cuddled up on the sofa she couldn’t help but smile because her birthday wish had come true. She got the mommy that she had dreamed of for the past year.
lately I've been thinking about getting ready for a wedding and ashton walks into the bathroom and sees you leaning forward in your knockout dress doing your makeup, and he leans up against your ass so you can feel the instant hardon he gets from seeing you in it, and you giggle and he runs a hot hand down your back then maybe another one up your leg and then even though you're already late you can't resist one last fuck on the hotel bed, knowing everyone is aware of why you two are late. again.
