Campaign launched to install lifts at Pokesdown Station
Residents in Pokesdown have launched a campaign to have lifts installed at the local railway station.
With the platform at the station being below street level access for the likes of parents with wheelchairs, the elderly and disabled is very difficult.
Pokesdown Community Forum who are leading the campaign for lifts to be installed at the station are demanding the Government honour their commitment for better accessibility under the “Access for All” scheme.
Despite a further £100 million being provided for the scheme during the period 2015-19, Pokesdown Station is not being included.
Forum secretary Andy Jones said: “The PCF is currently in consultation with South West Trains and Network Rail in order to try and remedy this totally unsatisfactory situation where the elderly, disabled and those with young families are unable to access the station platforms.”
Meanwhile a petition demanding that lifts be installed at Pokesdown Station was signed by 1,300 people and handed over to local MP Elwood.
