I was remembering a conversation I was having with my brother on Mega-Evolutions and I mentioned how I kind of really wanted to see one for Pikachu (I mean the other starters got them, why not Pikachu). However, he said it wasn’t likely. When I asked why, he pointed out that if they did that they would have had to put it in the anime since Pikachu is technically a main character and the face of Pokemon, which would be bad for ratings because come next region/gen where Megas were no longer hot stuff, they’d have to either make Pikachu weak again or make it forget it could mega evolve, which would upset fans because while they got away with the whole “Pikachu can’t evolve into Raichu cause power of love” thing, they wouldn’t be able to brush that off so quickly.

Plus Pikachu’s already overpowered in series enough as it is, adding a mega evolution form (even temporarily) would be pushing it, so it was likely never going to happen

But one can still dream...
