Polarthon 2023 Wrap-up

I know there's still most of a day left for the readathon, but I am not having a great time so I'm calling it quits now before I end up in a slump.

Spin 1: Polar Fantasy

Book: All the Wandering Light by Heather Fawcett (⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars)

Spin 3: Polar Fantasy

Book: Echo North by Joanna Ruth Meyers (⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars)

Spin 4: Watery

Book: The Monster Mission by Laura Martin (⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars)

Three stars isn't a bad rating, but I had higher expectations for three of these, and they all let me down. None of them are bad books, really, they just didn't live up to the hype and were mostly forgettable for me :/

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to time travel? I have. In a new take on time travel, the characters in Barbara Erskine’s Lady of Hay use hypnosis to do so. This is one of the books I’ve been reading this week for Polarthon. It’s about history, hypnotism, moving through time and past lives. It gave me all the cosy vibes of magic and the English countryside. I'm really conflicted about Polarthon next week >_<

I know I'm participating. I have like 10 books checked out (or picked from my collection) for a 7 day readathon lol. And my first prompt spin was "Polar Fantasy."

But.

I can't decide if I want to do 7 total spins in advance, or spin as I go. I should be fine either way, because there's only 1 prompt that I only have 1 book for. (But I have tons of options if I choose something that isn't a polar fantasy for that one.) All the other prompts will fit at least 3 books I have ready, and that's just counting the polar/polar fantasy ones.

But the anticipation and not knowing is getting to me like when I was a little kid and someone got me a gift for a holiday and taunted me about it for days or weeks before giving it to me.

But also I want to be spontaneous, and not go into this readathon with a set TBR list/number of books to read, because that will add pressure I don't want.

Ok... I think I've talked myself into spinning as I go... probably...

I had such a great time talking part in Polarthon last week!

Polar fantasy really isn’t “my” genre but I decided to dive into one of Jade’s favourites - Even the Darkest Stars by Heather Fawcett. ⭐️⭐️

I also re-read a classic - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S Lewis ⭐️⭐️⭐️

And finally I read the new Disney story of Rebel Rose - what happens when the Beast’s curse is broken? ⭐️⭐️

Polarthon 2021 TBR

February is just around the corner, which means so is Polarthon! I love this readathon so much, and I think I’ve participated in each round, with the exception of a weekend one at the end of last year. One sentence summary: Wow, that was pretty much a failure.

Okay, in all seriousness, February was a pretty crappy month for me, both in my reading and blogging life, and all the rest. It could have been a lot worse, and I’m thankful that it wasn’t, but it still sucked But, was it really a total failure? Eh, kind of, kind of not.
