so the spelling bee trophy tied for third place in the office object poll last week, but i am sharing it today for @elismor because it concerns a mutual friend of ours, and also because she asked.

(EDIT: i just found out the Scripps Spelling Bee final was last night! a fortuitous synchrony)

so our friend M's husband T is a Rotarian, and their Rotary Club spelling bee team was undefeated for several years in a row when, in 2011, a member of said team was unable to compete. rather than risk their title, M asked if i would step in for the other person. i said i would happily do so as long as i got the trophy when we won. and that is how i became a Rotary Club of New Orleans Spelling Bee Champion.

(the trophy has remained in my custody for all this time except for the year that the team was up for what i think was their 10th championship in a row? and T wanted to line up all the previous trophies on their table to psych out the competition.)
