Warnings: reader is hella depressed, it’s not mentioned explicitly, instead it says you’re ‘in a mood’ or ‘feeling sad’ so if these are going to be triggers pls don’t read. no smut. seasonal depression. sad times.
A/N: when things are bad it sometimes makes me feel better to live vicariously through Y/N in oneshots, so i thought i’d make one where the reader is feeling pretty depressed and 5sos helps them out. also i’m exhausted and used Canadian spelling for words like favoUrite and idk, I'm Canadian and proud.

It’s cold out. You’re not sure if it’s the weather, or for some other reason, but as you sit at the window and look into the dark blizzard, you feel sad. One of the guys had suggested the trip, looking back now it’s hard for you to remember if it was Ash or Luke.
Definitely not Michael or Cal, they don’t care much for this sort of thing.
The lodge you’ve rented is big, with enough rooms for all of you to sleep alone, although every night so far, you’ve all ended up in the master bedroom, huddled under comforters as the storm rages outside.
It’s the evening, you’re not sure what time. It’s been getting dark earlier and earlier.
Luke and Ashton are just coming back from a hike, you watch them slowly travel up the path to the lodge, the Aussies still not used to their snowshoes.
Michael is in the living room behind you, passed out on the couch with his arm over his eyes. You listen to him breathe and there’s something about it that’s soothing.
You feel Calum approach before he says anything, his hand resting on your shoulder, “babe?” his voice is soft, you wonder if he can sense that something is off with you, “want to come help me cook?”
You turn to look at him, opening your mouth to respond.
“Or maybe just come and be with me while I cook?” he corrects himself. He’d not sure if you have the energy to help, he doesn’t want to pressure you. Calum has always been acutely aware of how to talk to you when you’re ‘in a mood.’
You nod, allowing him to help pull you off the window seat. His hand is warm and you suddenly realize how cold you are. Calum seems to notice as well, and he pulls off his hoodie in one solid motion, handing it to you.
“Won’t you be cold?” you ask, looking at the tshirt he’s wearing.
He smiles softly at you, “i’ll be fine, and it’s warmer near the stove, come see.”
In the kitchen, you find the oven door open. Nothing is inside, but the heat wafts out and you melt into the warmth. Calum smiles, he’s heated the oven just for you. He knows you enjoy it.
You look at the ingredients strewn about. He’s making soup, you’re not sure what kind, but some of the vegetables laid out are your favourites.
The door to the lodge opens and Luke and Ashton enter. They’re laughing and Ashton shakes the snow from his curls. They both look cold, noses red, hair just beginning to dampen from the snow that they weren’t able to shake loose.
Calum nudges you with his shoulder, “if you’re not feeling good, maybe a shower would help.”
He’s right. Showers and warm water are calming, and you know that as soon as Luke and Ashton sense that you’re sad, they’ll be jumping to help make you feel better.
You nod at Calum, offering him a small smile. You get on your tiptoes to kiss his cheek, “are you sure you don’t need help cooking?” you ask.
“Nah, i just wanted you to stop looking out the window with a frown on your face.” he tells you, hand coming up to cup your cheek, “you know I love you.”
“I love you too.”
You approach Luke and Ashton, who are hanging up their jackets. Ashton turns to you first, engulfing you in a hug, “missed you.”
“How was the hike?” you ask.
“Too long.” Luke answers, pulling you to his chest when Ashton is done with you, “got lost.”
“We weren’t lost.” Ashton insists, “we were just- on the wrong path.”
You smile at them but Luke can see the sadness in your eyes. Even when you try your best to be happy, Luke, like the rest of them, always seems to see through the facade. “Are you okay?” he asks, hands going to your shoulders so he can get a good look at you.
You nod. For some reason, even if you’ve been keeping your emotions bottled up, all it takes is someone asking ‘are you okay’ and really wanting to know the real answer, for you to lose it. Your eyes start to well up with tears and Luke pulls you to his chest before they can spill onto your cheeks.
Ashton moves behind you and you find yourself sandwiched between the two men.
“Let’s go to the shower, does that sound good?” Ashton asks, hands rubbing up and down your arms to warm you up.
You nod against Luke’s chest and the two of them help you up the stairs to the bathroom attached to the master bedroom. It has a large shower, with a massive rain head that will cover all three of you.
Ashton sets the temperature, making sure it’s exactly what you like. He’s used to finding the right heat because he’s been with you for so long, and water as aftercare has always been a thing for him- whether it be a bath or a shower.
Luke helps you out of Calum’s hoodie, and then his own sweats that you’d stolen that morning. Luke pauses at the sight of you in one of Michael’s old ‘Idiot’ shirts. Luke wonders if perhaps these shirts are not the best things to keep around when you’re sad, if perhaps you’re wearing it for more than the simple reason that it’s soft and smells like the guitarist.
When you’re all naked, the two of them take you into the shower. There’s nothing sexual about it, they can sense that you’re not in that sort of mood. Instead you find solace in the arms of the men you love, the water warming your body and helping lift your mood.
You’re not sure how long you spend in the shower. Ashton washes your hair with your favourite shampoo, massaging your scalp and making sure you’re clean.
When you’re all done, the two of them dry off and then wrap you in a large fluffy towel. In the bedroom they help choose things for you to wear. Ashton helps you put on a pair of his sweats, then one of Luke’s shirts, a pair of big warm socks, and Calum’s hoodie.
Once you’re clothed, Ashton kneels in front of where you sit on the bed. He cups your face and watches you, thumb stroking your cheek, “i love you princess.” he tells you, kissing you on the cheek, then your nose. He waits for a reaction, when you smile he pulls away and smiles back at you, “hungry?”
You nod, “yeah.”
The three of you head downstairs. Luke asks Calum how long it will be until there’s food and Calum tells you that it might still be a while.
Michael is awake, sitting up on the couch. He notices the way you lean against Ashton and he can tell right away that you’re not in a good headspace. “Baby?” he asks, “wanna come cuddle?”
Ashton lets you go and you head to the couch. Michael makes room for you, pulling you so your back is to his chest. His breath is warm on your neck and he nuzzles his face against your skin, “I had an amazing dream about you.” he tells you.
Michael’s always been great at entertaining you with stories, distracting you from your low mood.
He tells you the story of his dream. It’s a little odd, and for some reason it features Harry Styles, which isn’t super surprising seeing as the two of them used to be close, it’s a nice dream. It makes you feel loved inside. His chest is warm and he holds you tightly, you know he never wants to let go.
Your eyes close as you listen to Michael’s voice. He’s sleepy, and his words sometimes slur together but you don’t mind. You begin to relax against him and soon you’re asleep.
Michael realizes you’re asleep and stops talking, his eyes also closing. It can be hard for him to fall asleep sometimes, but when he’s with you, it’s never an issue.
Calum and Ashton cook in the kitchen while Luke speaks in hushed tones, explaining the hike to Calum. Calum had chosen not to go because he’d seen the way you were acting in the morning. Luke and Ashton aren’t as good as Calum is at sensing your mood.
“Should we wake them up for food?” Luke asks as the soup finishes.
They all look to the living room.
“I don’t think so.” Calum says finally, “i think we should let them both sleep. I can heat soup up for them when they wake up, maybe we can all watch netflix later.”
“Sounds like a good plan Cal.” Ashton nods.
The blizzard continues outside, but within the lodge, you’re exactly where you should be. Things aren't always easy, but Calum, Luke, Michael and Ashton will always be there for you.
You sleep soundly as the snow covers the lodge in white.
