Day 4: Plasterer Bees/ Polyester Bees (colletidae)
These guys are usually 1-1.5 cms long, and live in forests and grasslands, and can be found in South America and Australia. They live everywhere, but are mostly found in those two continents.
These guys are solitary bees, and do not produce honey. They are docile, and will not sting you unless threatened.
They’re black with pale setae around the thorax and setae forming pale bands on the abdomen.
Despite not making honey, these guys do still pollinate, and are essential to the pollination of wild plants.
Sorry this one was a bit shorter, I couldn’t find many articles on the different kinds of Plasterer Bees.
