Polyphonic Me final performance
Polyphonic Me performance evaluation
Our final polyphonic me track was written off of a guitar riff which I’d had for a while, but I could never write anything for. When Courteney commented that it sounded like a old Coldplay riff when I played it, so we decided that we would write a old Coldplay-esque song, but including Ableton technology to create layers and add synth sounds.
Our biggest references when it comes to Ableton and synth/tech use in songs were Two Door Cinema Club, and Anteros, 2 indie/synth rock bands that rely on triggers to enhance their live shows, so we thought we’d try and incorporate some of that into our performance, with the drums being entirely made up of samples that Chris had found.
For the performance, we used and MPK Mini for Chris to play the drums/percussion and help with looping Courteney’s vocals, an APC key25 for Courteney to play the synth and control the reverb and delay sends for my guitar and her vocals, as well as an extra chorus send for my guitar. We had originally planned for me to loop my guitar in the bridge, however with Guy joining our group, we decided against looping the guitar, as it would’ve most likely meant that there were too many guitars in the bridge.
I feel like the song and the performance of it were both good, however, I do feel like the song itself could have used a bit more time in development, especially as Guy had joined our group just two days before due to his and Ross’s Ableton session crashing and preventing on them from working on it anymore. I feel like the drum rack could’ve been slightly more fleshed out, with some more varying and ambient sounds. However, I still feel like the song was good, and the performance ran smoothly and also went well.

Polyphonic Me performance proposal
We want to try and write a song that uses technology not to necessarily replace loads of instruments, but to instead enhance the sound of the band. For example, technology wise, Two Door Cinema Club are a good example of the kind of way that we want to use (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAJNm0ApPjk), whilst the kind of musical sound we going after was more of an old Coldplay style of song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnIZ7RMuLpU).
