Darry thought Ponyboy was gonna die thinking his big brother hated him
“Darry works to hard to play pranks” “darry doesn’t do april fools”
darry tells people bonkers shit with a straight face and they all believe him because they don’t think he would prank them. He’ll tell them ‘april fools’ hours later. He thinks it’s the funniest shit EVER
honestly the most unrealistic part of the outsiders is that Darrel had never hit Ponyboy before. Your oldest brother, a football playing jock-y dudebro never hit you before??? As the youngest brother??? And you’re questioning if he actually loves you???? You’re lucky he didn’t genuinely use you as a punching bag boy!!! He genuinely coulda slimed you out everyday after school!!!
Loving absolutely crazy gullible sodapop.
Steve says “hey soda, gullible is written on the ceiling” and he looks up. Dallas tells him “did you know you can tell if you’re smart by if your hand is the same size as your face?” And then smacks him. Darry deadpans a joke that they’re turning the high school into a horse stable and soda goes “really!?,” and the whole gang has to stop talking and look at him before he realizes.
He’s Just a silly dude!
modern day parry where Darrel and Paul meet in college and all their respective friend groups are convinced their buddy’s “boyfriend” is made up.
Like sureeee Darrel, you do have a rich boyfriend who is super tall, buff, handsome and likes playing football with you! He’s in a frat? He’s superrrrr cool and popular? Yeah, we all believe you, pal.
And for sure Paul, your hot greaser boyfriend who is a bad boy but is also so sweet and kind, and is a provider is totallyyyy real. He DEFINITELY has two real, living brothers to take care of, that’s why we can’t meet him. What are their names again? Ponyboy and Sodapop? Mhmkay.
@imgoincdayzee
Darry loves his brothers, but when they’ve grown up, Ponyboy in college and Soda living a town over training horses, it’s hard to not let the thoughts come creeping in. He watches them go off and live their dreams, and doesn’t want to disturb them, let them in on how much he’s suffering. He can’t help but feel that they don’t need their big brother anymore, and that if he’s not useful, then there’s no use for him to be around anymore. He’s a rock, holding them down. He wants them to call, to feel loved, but thinks he’s too boring, too depressing for two people who have moved on from the grief that still haunts him. He’s sure that secretly they must feel the same.
"Steve Randle, I Do Not Like You, you are my Nemesis" I say, hiding my box of suspiciously Steve Randle shaped headcannons and lore behind me
Steve and Two-bit going grocery shopping for Darry and coming back with groceries and more money than they left with as their “change”
