A STONE-COLD POO-DUNIT 

I noticed it myself one Saturday morning: a smudge of chocolate near the end of the bedspread. I shrieked and my husband came to size up the damage. After zooming his head in and out followed by a minute or two of squinting, all he could surmise was, "I guess we got a Poo Goblin."

A bit nonchalant if you ask me, but since the smear in question was on my side of the bed, I didn't have much latitude for accusations. Unless it was purposely planted there to frame me. Wait a minute, wasn't he the one gobbling chocolate in front of the TV last night? I tiptoed out into the living room to gather evidence.

"Aha!" I pointed to Exhibit A, an open chocolate bar wrapper next to the couch. "You were eating it too," he shot back. I had one bite--ok three--each carefully shepherded into my mouth with a cupped hand that I shook out afterwards onto the floor. I noticed  a small speckle of chocolate near his usual perch."Now what do you have to say for yourself?!" I charged.

"Preposterous," he objected, citing the "one who smelt it dealt it" precedent and pointing out that I could have knowingly made the smudge, then pretended to find it out only after planting evidence to incriminate him. I suggested we take it to arbitration, but by that time tempers were flaring and our afternoon outing was in jeopardy. I decided to drop it--for now.  

Like I always say, keep your friends close and your suspected Poo Goblins even closer. He'll fudge up sooner or later. And I'll be there waiting--with a fingerprint analysis kit and spray bottle of stain stick.
