Understanding the Labels on Your Perth Pool Pumps
A swimming pool is a sizable investment. To preserve your investment, good maintenance and using the right equipment is necessary. Buying pool equipment and accessories needs a lot of careful thinking and consideration, lest you spend money on the wrong product. One way to lessen this risk is to understand the labels on your pool pumps. Keep in mind that “high flow” and “high pressure” don’t always mean good things for your pool.
Flow rate pertains to the amount of water (in litres per minute or lpm) that the pump can transfer. A pump with high flow rate can fill your pool with water in a short amount of time, but it can also damage your pool’s filter systems. To avoid this, take the pump’s maximum flow rate into account and compare it with the filters’ maximum flow rate, to see if the latter can handle the former.
Speed, meanwhile, refers to the amount of time needed by the pump to filter a pool. The higher the speed, the greater the water pressure being produced. Take note that high water pressures can also damage your filter systems.
A pump with variable speed gives you control over speed settings, and therefore carries less risks of damaging the filters. A two-speed pump, as the name implies, can be adjusted two ways. If you buy a single-speed pump, however, you would again need to refer to the pump’s maximum flow rate and make sure that your filter can handle the set speed.
