I was motivated to look at Meritorio Records Bandcamp page when hearing about Girlatones newest release.  However, there is nothing on Meritorio for the new record.  Girlatones have a definite Aussie pop sound - Lachlan Denton and Liam Halliwell are easy comparisons.

But this post is about the Turnhout, Belgium band Poppel.  This is a classic twofer....Girlatones and Poppel.  Poppel is much more straightforward indie pop.  Think of The Chills (listen to that reverb on the guitar), The Sea Pinks, or the guitar noodling of The Worrynauts.

Meritorio Records is a Spanish label that is quickly making a name for itself.  They have a great 3 LP bundle for only 40 euros!

Quei dischi indie rock che oggi prendono voti tipo 7.1, oppure tre stelle, fatti apposta per dimenticare subito titolo, autore e copertina; quelle mezz'ore di vecchie chitarre sincere che dovrebbero rappresentare un po' chi sei e che invece vengono skippate via in un soffio nelle playlist; quei gruppi che arrivano dalla provincia e che una volta ti avrebbero fatto immaginare nuove scene emergenti, proprio loro, a volte, se ti fermi a regalare un po' di attenzione, possono rivelare sorprese interessanti.
