The now immortalized and slightly sun burnt Andy T, hiding behind his billboard (also the last poster of Sunday). This post is to say to Andy.. tag.. you’re it! All posts to follow are his. Toby here signing off... thank you to the Hinterlands and company for inviting us to be in the festival and for all your work making it happen (Liza, Richard and Dave -- & Billy-- for fending off those water bucket thieves).

This screen print, pulled by an enthusiastic woman named Andy (no relation to co-conspirator Andy T) uses a piece of a larger photo that I took in a Hamtramck alley for a 2009 show at the 2739 Edwin Gallery (since re-located and now 9338 Campau). That show, titled Walking Distance, was conceived and curated by Steve Panton. I (and many other Detroit/Hamtramck) residents owe Steve so much for his support of the artists in this area and beyond. He offered me my first show before I was even a legit resident.. and that show introduced me to so many of my now-most-favorite people (including Andy T, who has also shown his work there on several occasions). Steve is also one of the founders of the ongoing Hamtramck Neighborhood Arts Festival.
Lucky for her, the woman who pulled this print came back and got it at the end of the day, or else I might have given it away to Steve as a thank you for 6+ years of his support... or to my next-door neighbor who asked for it too.

This nice young person came all the way out from Marshall, MI (home of the Museum of Magic). I spoke to her dad (forgot both of their names....it was a long day) at length about living in Hamtramck, pros and cons of living/working in/around Detroit. He had also lived in Miami (my hometown) and New York/Brooklyn (one of my earlier stops) and we shared our memories/opinions/musings about both of those cities. Too much to put it all here.

Wire Cars! Go cruising in Hamtramck. This poster is 5-way artistic collaboration with Andrew Thompson, Jide Aje, Chido Johnson, the Hinterlands and yours truly (Toby Millman). Are we breaking any records here? Am I missing anyone? Poster NFS.
I met Anthony Brogdon (the man drawing) at Avalon sometime last year. He was promoting his video, The Great Detroit Documentary, and sold a DVD copy to a German researcher who I was with. I told him that I was impressed with his “hustle” and started to do the same with one of my own projects (until I gave up.. hustling is A LOT of work). Anyways, I met him again on Sunday, this time with his son. Take a look at Anthony’s poster.. he’s still working it! Yes!
