DJ products that are released in sequence usually have some sort of pattern that the average consumer can predict. Most of us can envision where the industry is heading so when a new controller is released by Native Instruments we are not really shocked as we are delighted. For equipment to be produced that goes against the grains of convention means a few things for the manufacturer. First, they are going to receive harsh criticism before the product has even reached the hands of users. Second, they are going to be compared against the status quo. The PDJ is one of these products – which seemed to appear out of nowhere by an unknown company. The PDJ is designed to be a truly portable, all-in-on DJ solution. There are no controllers to plug in, and there is not laptop or tablet needed here. On this basis alone, I can credit the makers on this part and there is no other company doing it like this. The device uses two small screens, a mixing unit, and also houses a SD card for songs. Without getting into how well it actually works, the concept is brilliant.
