Made a trip of #kayaking and going #Neowise #comet watching. #PortAustin is the northernmost point in the thumb of #Michigan. There's nothing NW of here, so it would reduce light pollution. One of things to do in Port Austin is kayaking to #TurnipRock and its neighbor #ThumbnailPoint. 6 miles roundtrip. I had never #kayak #GreatLakes before. With a slight tailwind, I got there in an hour and 15. Looked around, check out the mini sea wall/caves. Then I saw these stacked #rocks. Did I not notice them before? Did they magically stack themselves? I said: Great, #BlairWitch is coming for me. And then, not kidding, the weather changed. 5 mph winds became 30 and the lake was now really choppy. The first half mile back, it was crosswind, not so bad. And then I rounded the corner and it was full headwind. It was all I could do to keep paddling to not lose ground. Finally gave up after going nowhere. I then towed my kayak back, walking through the murky water as it's mostly forested shoreline, stepping on who knows what, battling into now howling wind and incoming waves. I once took a break and my toes, calves, and thighs in both legs all cramped at the same time. Super harrowing stuff. The trip back took just over 3 hours. I also saw multiple people pass me on the way to the rock. I never saw them the rest of the day/night. So I assumed they all died. And then there was a comet. I took about 50 pics over about 90 minutes. They all relatively suck. Last pic has the comet and tail center bottom, #BigDipper above/left.
