Valentine stood toward the back of the ballroom. He didn’t know how he ended up here tonight. Well, the alternative had been hitting a club and not drinking, which just seemed boring. He’d never realized how obnoxious drunk people could be until he had to tolerate them while sober. He had a drink in his hand, a coke, which only made him feel like a child, but he preferred it that way. He didn’t know a lot of people there and his “date” vanished moments after they’d arrived. Vanished was a nice way of saying Valentine was carefully avoiding him. He hadn’t always been a loner, but Valentine did have his nights and this was one of them. He wandered around the ballroom, trying to see if he could recognize anyone from the bakery. Giving up on that as he neared the dance floor, he decided fuck it.
“Wanna dance?” he asked the first person he found standing alone and looking equally as out of place as he had felt. “I can do a mean waltz. My tango and foxtrot aren’t as good though.” He held his hand out and raised a brow. “Promise not to step on your toes.”
