#JoshuaStout the #lighthouse keeper at Portland Head Light on Christmas Eve 1886. . The #AnnieCMaquire sailed into Casco Bay about 11 PM seeking shelter from heavy seas in #PortlandHarbor. She wrecked on the rocks only a few hundred feet from the light. . About to retire for the night, the alarm sounded about 11:30 and Stout and his 11 children sprang into action to rescue those aboard before the ship began to break up against the rocks. . All safe ashore the shipwrecked crew was treated to hot coffee and chicken pot pies at the keepers home, and with extra food on hand for a Christmas feast it seems the shipwrecked crew needed a bit of coaxing to move along before getting to comfortable at the Lighthouse. .
