Hiya everyone!! I’m working on making a discord for writers and readers of fanfic. Ever since the tag thing has happened and everything is wonky, I’ve been having trouble finding some of my favorite works. If your interested, reblog this post and put some of your favorite fandoms/most popular so I can add them!
Hopefully this can develop into a wonderful thing!
I Can’t Help But Love You
Morgan Rielly Imagine
Warnings: some swearing, mentions of alcohol
Comments: Title is a lyric from War of Hearts by Ruelle (Acoustic version is prettier)
I haven’t written a imagine in a super long time, but I’ve been in a hockey mood [I’m guessing you can tell lmao]
Requested: yes / no
Word Count: 1256
I don’t own the gif.
*ALSO, I will be working on putting together a masterlist. It might be awhile though, I’ve never been too good at figuring it out.
------------------------------------------
The air around me has shifted, it always does when he walks into the room. It’s the annual Blue and White Gala and the space is filled with donors and wonderfully large hockey players.
Mitch and Steph already stopped to say hi to me, as well as Freddie and Tyler; who still looked sharp even with his boot on. But the one person who I really want to say hi to just walked in with another girl.
“You know, none of us have ever seen her before.” Steph’s voice cut through my inner monologue. She looked stunning in a beautiful royal blue number.
I scoffed and took a large sip of my vodka lemonade, looking over at her. “Yeah, well, he made his choice, now I just gotta live with it.”
Morgan and his new girl were making it around the circle and soon enough, he would be in my line of sight. The small round table I was standing at was close enough to the bar where I wouldn’t have to walk far, yet it was far enough so it didn’t look like I was dependent on it.
“Y/N! Their coming this way!” Steph exclaimed.
“Yeah and? I have every right to be here.”
“Stop being stubborn, we both know what will happen when he sees you...does he even know you’re here?” she asked.
Not answering I looked around for a escape route, not noticing the tall ginger that found his way back to the table.
“No, he doesn’t.” Freddie spoke as he came up next to me. Freddie loves to annoy Morgan. He knows that it gets under the blondes skin way too easily.
Steph’s eyes got wide and she reminds me of a owl. “What do you mean?? This--”
Quickly I walked around to the other side of the table, brushing past Freddie and grabbing her shoulders which makes her look directly at me. “Stephanie, please calm down. We broke up over the summer, I’m over it, he’s clearly over it, and I’m here because I have every damn right and he knows it.”
Steph inhaled and exhaled, slowly calming down. She nodded and moved out of my grasp. She leaned against the table trying to look collected. Freddie looked at me with a perfectly quirked eyebrow and I shook my head. He looked above me, something catching his eye. With a small, secret grin only directed at me as I went back to my original spot, he placed his right arm around my back, pulling me to him.
“Hi Steph! How are you?” A shrill voice entered our quiet space. And with the way Freddie held me, and the way Steph’s eyebrows furrowed, I know who it is.
Looking up I saw her first. She’s beautiful, I’ll admit. She has long, raven black hair and bright blue eyes. She also looks like she just came back from a weekend in Hawaii. She’s wearing a light blue dress that dips lowly.
She’s so different from me, I’m on the opposite side of the spectrum. My short brown hair reaches my neck, and my brown eyes only shine when I pick up a good book. My burgundy dress looks like a set of curtains compared to her’s.
Morgan appeared from behind her and wrapped his arm around her. He nodded at Freddie and smiled at Steph. He’s doing the best to ignore me, but when she looks at me he can’t help but follow her gaze.
There’s a slight glint in her eyes when she looks at me. It’s friendly but the hint of jealousy is shining through.
Ah, there it is.
I smile, “Hello I’m Y/N.” I hold out my hand, waiting for her to shake it.
She smiles kindly, “Hey I’m Grace.” She reaches forward and shakes my hand, grasping it gently. Her blue eyes latch onto the warm body behind me, “Are you Freddie’s date?”
She asked it with mirth in her eyes. I’m guessing that she knows exactly who I am, after all Mo and I were together for three years.
Looking up at Freddie I send him a little smirk and I can feel Morgan’s eyes on me, following the action. Freddie leaned into my more as I leaned forward, keeping my gaze on hers.
“Something like that.”
Steph scoffed and murmured, saying how she was going to find her boyfriend. She looked over at me and mouthed, “Call me.”
I winked at her, feeling a surge of confidence run through me. My eyes land on Morgan, who's staring at Freddie’s arm wrapped around my torso. His bright blue eyes connect with mine and I can tell.
He still loves me.
But us breaking up was all his decision. He gave me answers full of cliches; it’s not you its me, I don’t want to settle down quite yet, blah blah blah. I couldn’t sleep for months after we broke up, missing him deeply. Thoughts of him consumed my mind constantly and it took me forever to not think about him 24/7.
Grace didn’t know what to say, she looked back at Morgan, who was still staring at me. She touched his arm, and I know that I can’t stay here and act like I’m happy. Looking up at Freddie I touch his chest gently, before downing the rest of my drink and weaving through the crowd.
A part of me knows that I can’t wait for him forever, but I know that if I’m given the chance I totally would. But that’s not healthy. But I can’t help but love him.
“Y/N! Y/N wait.” I can hear him getting closer, trying to reach me through the crowd that is closing in on us. Picking up my dress I made my way downstairs and towards the coat room. Handing the attendant my number, he disappeared among the jackets.
“Y/N!” He’s closer now, maybe just a few feet behind me.
“Go back to her Morgan and leave me alone.” I say, trying not to let my emotions get the best of me.
“No, wait, I just, I just want to say I’m sorry.” He’s out of breath, and I’m surprised he took that much effort to reach me.
“You don’t understand Morgan, it’s too late. You made your bed, now you gotta lie in it.” I say as the attendant hands me my coat and wishes me a good night. Slipping it on, I turn around.
“You don’t understand Morgan,” I start again as I zip it up and fix my hair. “Seeing you with her, it killed me. I know we broke up months ago, but I can’t help but still love you, even if I try not to…”
I felt one lonely tear escape, betraying me. He stepped forward like he wanted to wipe it away, his hand raised and ready.
Backing away I shook my head, “Go back to her Morgan, she seems like a nice girl.” I try to smile, but it quivers.
Taking a deep breath I look at him one last time before turning around and escaping into the brisk Toronto air. Disappearing from his life forever.

I would say I’m sorry for all the recent twilight fics but I’m not. Good writing is good writing.
