Finney Blake at fourteen being no longer able to wear shorts. Finney at fifteen who remains covered by long sleeves at all times. Finney at sixteen who is sent to a psych ward for a week. Finney at seventeen who isn't allowed near sharp or hot objects anymore and starts to learn how to like himself. Finney at seventeen braving a short sleeved t-shirt for the first time during a heatwave. Finney Blake who, at eighteen, is seen at the park in baseball shorts and a worn out tee, covered in purple and white lines but happy enough with himself that he doesn't feel the shame anymore

Finn's teeth hurt. They always hurt, even though he brushes his teeth three times a day to get the taste out. He even uses the sensitive enamel stuff that tastes like bubblegum.

Finn's teeth hurt because his mouth is full of venom. Cruel, mean words that bubble and burn and carve deep marks into his gums. He vomits them out uncontrollably, biting the tail end of worse ones and feeling his teeth creak as they wrench free. His incisors wear down to nubs, exposed nerves prickling in the air.

Finn is nasty when he doesn't have to be. He takes chunks out of people and burns them down when he knows there's another choice. It hurts them and it hurts him, tears apart his mouth and throat like a wash of razorblades.

The pain of the venom hurts less than remembering the taste of what caused it.
