Kaito waited until the mourners had departed before he approached the grave. Most would have questioned why he was here, thousands of miles from home, at the funeral of someone he hadn’t been very close to.
It was the least he could do, after what Hakuba had sacrificed for him. The magician took a deep breath, face impassive as he spoke. “Idiot detective. I wasn’t worth it. You barely knew me… yet you died for me.”
He paused, wiping away tears that threatened to break his mask. “I wish I could have gotten to know you better. I think I was falling in love with you.”
