Introducing Free Port Vibes, a video series produced for the Imaginary Collective's debut exhibition, Storage Space (2009).
In an expanding global art market, most of the work bought for eye-watering prices are kept away from public view in free port storage facilities. Many cities along trade routes maintain foreign exchange zones where goods can come and go with minimal government regulation. These trade zones have ushered in free ports designed to maintain valuable art so that their buyers evade taxes and duties until they resell their purchases. Free Port Vibes is set in one of these storage units and stars a disaffected Rothko painting and the friends that come and go, discussing art, culture, old beefs, and whatever nonsense artworks want to express.
